Generic Trimox ( Amoxicillin )

Overview of Trimox
Trimox is a semisynthetic penicillin antibiotic whose active ingredient is amoxicillin. It works by preventing the formation of bacterial cell walls in various bacteria including N. gonorrhoeae, H. influenzae, E. coli, Streptococci, Pneumococci, and some Staphylococci strains. This medication treats bacterial infections affecting the middle ear, skin, upper and lower respiratory tracts, as well as the genital and urinary systems.
Dosage and Administration
The typical dosage varies depending on the infection and can be 250 mg every 8 hours, 500 mg every 8 hours, 500 mg every 12 hours, or 875 mg every 12 hours. It is recommended to take Trimox with a full glass of water, either with or without food. Dosage adjustments are necessary for children.
Precautions
- Follow your doctor’s instructions precisely and do not start or stop taking Trimox without medical advice.
- Complete the entire prescribed course to avoid antibiotic resistance, even if symptoms improve early.
- Patients with diabetes should be aware that Trimox may cause false positive results in urine glucose tests.
- Notify your healthcare provider if you have a history of asthma, colitis, diabetes, or kidney or liver problems.
Contraindications
Do not use Trimox if you are allergic to penicillin antibiotics or any of its components.
Possible Side Effects
- Common side effects include heartburn, diarrhea, vomiting, dizziness, nausea, insomnia, confusion, abdominal pain, easy bruising or bleeding, rash, itching, and allergic reactions.
- If you experience severe or persistent side effects, consult your doctor immediately.
Drug Interactions
Inform your healthcare provider about all medicines and herbal products you are taking. Special caution is needed when combining Trimox with chloramphenicol, erythromycin, estrogen, oral contraceptives, tetracycline, or other antibiotics.
Probenecid can reduce the kidney’s ability to clear Trimox, leading to increased drug levels in the blood.
Missed Dose
If you miss a dose, do not double up. Take the next dose at the usual scheduled time and skip the missed dose if it is near time for the next one.
Overdose
Symptoms of an overdose may include diarrhea, stomach upset, nausea, stomach cramps, and vomiting. Seek emergency medical attention if you suspect an overdose.
Storage
Store Trimox at room temperature between 20-25°C (68-77°F) in a dry place.
